WhatItMeanstoBeaBCorp
Since 2016, Davines has been a certified Benefit Corporation. This designation is reserved only for companies that meet the highest standards of overall social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. B Corps are legally accountable for balancing profit with purpose. They strive to be the best for the world.
To Davines, obtaining B Corp certification only reinforced the values we’ve always held as a brand. We adhere to B Corp principles by maximizing our positive impact on the planet, or customers, and our community every day.
Today, Davines has a B Score of 123.5.

OurPillarsofSustainability
For us, sustainability means doing what’s best not just for the environment but also for ourselves, our customers, our partners, and future generations. Our sustainability focuses fall into four categories: decarbonization, biodiversity, circularity, and water, supported by a valuable enabler: our B Corp Advocacy. It is from these four pillars that we will base our efforts in the coming years, defining our ambitions, actions and projects. Read on to learn how we incorporate these values into our everyday work.

Decarbonization
We are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, at the latest, following the standards set by the global Science Based Targets initiative. To meet that goal, we measure and reduce our carbon footprint as much as we can within our value chain and since 2018 we have been carbon neutral at Davines Village.
Every product we make is manufactured with 100% of the electricity from renewable sources. And whatever energy we can’t make clean we naturalise our emissions through partnerships with Scolel’te and Ethiotrees. These organizations are working toward reducing deforestation and reforesting vulnerable areas. We naturalise all CO2 emissions from the packaging lifecycle of products sold, from Davines e-commerce shipments in Italy and the United States, from the direct emissions of 180 Davines salons in Italy, and from our scope 1 and scope 2.

Biodiversity
We at Davines are staunch proponents of regenerative organic agriculture, a farming method that uses no synthetic pesticides or herbicides and follows high standards for soil health, animal welfare, and farmworker fairness. Since 2014, we have collaborated with the nonprofit Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity to incorporate ingredients from regenerative farms into all our Essential Haircare products. Slow Food farms are those that demonstrate a commitment to improving soil quality and biodiversity.
In 2021, Davines Group also opened the European Regenerative Agriculture Center (EROC), our research and education hub, in partnership with the Rodale Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to research around regenerative organic farming. The purpose of EROC is to elevate farming practices, demonstrate the benefits of regenerative organic agriculture and soil carbon sequestration, and expand the supply chain of regenerative organic ingredients for the beauty industry and beyond.

Circularity
Every year since 2014, Davines has reduced the percentage of our packaging that’s made of virgin, fossil-based plastic.
Today, 64.1% of our packaging is made from either recycled, bio-based, or mass-balance plastic.
We partner with Plastic Bank to recover ocean-bound plastic and recycle it into raw materials. The project helps protect the most vulnerable ecosystems and coastal communities on Earth. For every product we sell that’s packaged in plastic, the equivalent amount is collected and removed from coastal areas in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brazil through our partnership with Plastic Bank and in 2022, we collected 779 tons of plastic.

Water
Water conservation is a pivotal focus in our sustainability strategy. Our commitment extends to preserving and restoring water basins while further reducing our water footprint across the entire value chain. Tangible goals will be established to achieve meaningful reductions in water consumption.

BCorpAdvocacy
Since 2016, we have advocated for the B Corp movement by encouraging our suppliers, distributors and customers to obtain the certification. Davines Group is a founding member of the B Corp Beauty Coalition, “B Beauty,” an international group of companies working together to improve environmental practices across the beauty industry. In its first two years, the coalition gained 78 members. We are excited to see B Beauty grow and transform beauty industry standards across the board.
MeasuringOurProgress
Since 2015, we have published annual sustainability reports to measure our progress and maintain a high level of brand transparency. The report details our activities, objectives, and achievements for the year.
Our most recent 2022/23 Sustainability Report shares the regenerative evolution of Davines Group’s sustainability approach.

What’sNext?
Grow Beautiful is our latest climate action initiative. Launched in 2022 as We Sustain Beauty, the project is our first global socio-environmental campaign. The idea behind it is to raise awareness of the many benefits of regenerative organic agriculture and biodiversity through art and beauty. We have collaborated with dancer Fanny Sage to express the message in the most beautiful way possible, and every year we raise funds for environmental projects with limited-edition products like a tote bag and body wash. We will continue to work towards a sustainable future, push for progress, and focus our efforts on vulnerable communities with the Grow Beautiful campaign for years to come.
Will beauty alone save the planet? Probably not, but it can certainly make it a better place.
